学生へメッセージ

Language is the basis for our thoughts. It is our means of communication. It is the way we express our emotions. Learning a second language is therefore not only an opportunity to further our life goals, but also it enables us to increase our knowledge, meet different people, and better understand ourselves. Learning Japanese has had a profound impact on my life and career, and I hope to help my students gain some of those same benefits of multilingualism.

研究内容について

Language is a multifaceted skill. Because of this, it is quite challenging to accurately and fairly determine an individual’s language level. Some might excel at speaking but be poor at reading. Others might have a large vocabulary but have difficulty using it with accuracy. All throughout my experience as a teacher and researcher, assessment is the aspect of language learning that has fascinated me most. In my master’s thesis I created a novel type of language proficiency test, and I am always experimenting with new ways to evaluate students in my classes. It is my goal to give all of my students a chance to prove their proficiency using fair, accurate, and enjoyable testing systems.
