During lunch break on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, SwallowPick, an event planned and run primarily by students at our university, gave a presentation at the Yadeta Seminar.
Swallow Pick currently has 21 members, and provides educational support and a place for children with foreign roots, mainly in Isesaki City.
The presentations this time were given by three second-year students who have been involved since last year.
We will introduce the activities, the efforts we make to interact with children with foreign roots, and the realizations and learnings we have gained through the activities.
He gave a detailed explanation with concrete examples.
In the eight-digit seminar of the School Education course, we are engaged in support activities for Japanese language classes at a public elementary school in Isesaki City (this is our third year).
I will continue to use what I have learned from the Swallow Pick members in my activities.
Here are some of the impressions from the seminar students.
・After hearing about Swallowpick's activities, I learned that although working with children from various backgrounds can be difficult at times, there is much to learn from it.
・I was able to reaffirm that just because a child has foreign roots does not mean they are special. I also reaffirmed that understanding each child's individuality and characteristics will improve how we interact with and teach them.
・I thought it was wonderful that they didn't just teach and be satisfied, but also listened to the children's hearts and made many efforts to improve their teaching methods. I found it very helpful to look the children in the eye, respect their feelings, and not force their ideas on them.
・Listening to everyone talk about the differences between elementary school and Swallowpick, I was able to see the different challenges that come with different approaches. I hope to use everyone's stories to interact with children in my own way.
