学生へメッセージ

For me, doing research has the ultimate aim of improving my teaching and my classes to enable students to reach their goals. To prepare students for this globalized world, it is my belief that students should use English as much as possible. Using language facilitates opportunities for feedback and negotiation of meaning and greater amounts of comprehensible input while simulating real world communication, which is ever changing and unpredictable. By providing a sundry of opportunities to utilize language and engage in dialogue with other learners, students develop skills such as initiating conversation, keeping up with the twists and turns of topics, interjecting thoughts, and asking relevant questions. With this being said, I have done research on an extra-curricular activity called “Coffee Talk” focusing on students using English in a casual atmosphere, how students use questions in the classroom, how the back and forth exchange of teacher feedback over the course of several drafts of writing effects students’ writing, and how pronunciation training may improve students’ listening ability. More recently, I have been researching study abroad. Specifically, I am interested in whether or not and how much pre-departure orientation should include home country knowledge.

研究内容について

There is no question that the world has become more and more globalized with people from many nations coming together to solve problems, discuss issues and conduct business. The ability to use language enables individuals to gain access to information while also allowing them to provide information and opinions. Additionally, Knowledge in the English language will help to build bridges between Japan and other countries at a grassroots level. while enhancing job or educational opportunities for those who have mastered the ability to communicate in English. Therefore, my research on study abroad, pronunciation and listening ability, etc. are all aimed at accomplishing this goal.
