Developing English for Gunma Tourism Sawazaki Zemi Spring 2014
This seminar focuses on the English resources necessary to promote visits of international tourists to Gunma and how to support their stay.
Each student will choose one tourist spot and research information that is available for tourists in English and Japanese. Students will create a portfolio of this data and present it at the end of the spring term.
The goals are:
• to learn and be able to use “English for Tourism”.
• to learn about tourism in Gunma in English (e.g., History, monuments, arts, nature, people, industry, food, local products & specialties, transportation).
• create new resources when currently-available ones are lacking.
To learn firsthand about tourism support for English speakers in Gunma, it is ideal to visit the sites, meet professionals and volunteers in this field, and volunteer when opportunities arise. Students are expected to engage in such activities independently, and seek the support of the teacher when necessary.
